CHILD celebrates movie night in Edmonton

Edmonton-based participants in the CHILD Cohort Study gathered on Sunday February 23, 2020, for a screening of the documentary film “Let Them Eat Dirt,” which features, among its experts, CHILD researchers and ground-breaking CHILD research on the microbiome.

Some 40 CHILD participant family members attended the Movie Night, which also featured games, film-themed snacks (mud pies and gummy worms), and presentations on CHILD Cohort Study progress and research discoveries by site leader Dr. Piush Mandhane and Research Coordinator Joyce Chikuma.

The lead scientists behind “Let Them Eat Dirt,” both the film and the book by the same title, are Drs Marie-Claire Arrieta and Dr. B. Brett Finlay. A similar screening for CHILD families was held at the Vancouver site of the Study in 2019.
